How can I publish data? Follow the link to get a Quick Guide.
How much does it cost to publish data? The
assignment of a data DOI by a KomFor publication agent is free of charge.
Projects may be charged by a data
archive for processing and long-term storage of data.
How do I cite data? In the geosciences it is now generally accepted, that data sources should be cited. The format of data citations in journals is, however, not yet universally established Data citations should be styled in analogy to literature citations.
More information about data repositories can be found in the DataCite repositories list and the Registry of Research Data Repositories (re3data.org)
Why do I need Metadata? Metadata describes additional data information about certain data. For example a text document’s metadata may contain the length of the document, the author and an abstract. The choice of metadata elements depends on their purpose, i.e. whether metadata are needed to facilitate discovery of a dataset in portals and catalogue services, or to inform users about how the data can be re-used once they have been found by the user. Metadata for re-use are very specific and will be defined by the respective user communities. Metadata for discovery are intended to be fairly generic to allow syndication to data portals and catalogues. The minimum set of metadata elements in KomFor is determined by the DataCite metadata schema.
What happens with my data? In most cases the publication agent will provide a trusted archive where your data will be held and made accessible.
In analogy to articles in scientific literature, published data cannot be modifies as they are now a part of the record of science. Most data repositories have adopted the principles of Open Access to research data.
